Q

How do you perform Thoracentesis?

A
  1. Nurse positions patient with arms up and leaning over bedside table
  2. Nurse holds patient in place and talks them though it
  3. Provider sticks needle in pleural space and takes out fluid, but can’t remove too much (Watch BP)
  4. Patient will immediately feel Better

  • Abscess

Pulmonary Hypertension
-Right ventricular hypertrophy

17
Q

What are some ways to help prevent a pulmonary embolism?

20
Q

What are some surgical therapies for someone with a pulmonary emoblism?

A

Pulmonary Embolectomy for Massive PE
- For hemodynamically unstable patients where thrombolytic therapy is contraindicated

INFERIOR Vena Cava filter
-Prevents migration of clots in pulmonary system
