Knee dislocation
Medical emergency as can be associated with damage to popliteal artery +/- peroneal nerve
Apply firm longitudinal traction, whilst assistant generates counter-traction
Elbow dislocation
Medical emergency as can be associated with damage to brachial artery +/- nerves
Apply firm longitudinal traction, whilst assistant generates counter-traction
Finger dislocation
Ring block
Apply firm longitudinal traction, whilst assistant generates counter-traction
Patella dislocation
Bend knee to 45’
Grasp patella and push medially whist straightening leg
Ankle dislocation
Reduce asap and splint
Medial knee ligament
Stress test
- stress medial ligament out by pushing ankle out laterally
- tender to palpate
- laxity
Lateral knee ligament
Stress test
- push foot in medially to abduct leg
- laxity in joint
Anterior cruciate
Anterior draw test
- laxity in joint / easily displaces forward
Posterior cruciate
Posterior draw test
- laxity in joint / easily displaced backwards
Meniscal injury
Oedema / pain palpation of joint line
Clicks felt
Mcmurray’s test
