What are the different stool presentations for someone with lower GI bleeding and why do these occur?
A
Maroon stools = bleeding in right side of colon
Bright red blood= bleeding in left of colon
Melaena= caeceal bleeding

What can cause colonic bleeding?
A
Colitis Polyps Diverticula or diverticulosis Angiodysplasia= intermittent bleeding Proctitis Haemorrhoids

How would you manage a patient with lower GI bleed?
A
Resusictation i.e. O2/IV/cross-match/FFP/Vitk/CVP
Colonoscopy
I.e. injection with vasoconstrictors or sclerosing agents
Diagnostic angiography
Therapeutic angiography i.e. embolisation of bleeding vessels
Surgery i.e. indicated in diverticulitis
