Saphenous nerve (cutaneous to medial calf down to medial malleolus)
What nerve pierces through the psoas muscle?
Genitofemoral
Injury to these two nerves causes inguinal and hip pain. Abdominal muscle weakness and pain w/hip extension may occur also.
Ilioinguinal and iliohypograstric nerves
A common problem, this nerve is injured in what is called Meralgia Paresthetica (hyperalgesia over lateral thigh - pain/burning/discomfort)
Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
The trigger point for this muscle mimics Meralgia Paresthetica, but pain is slightly higher on the hip.
Quadratus lumborum
What is the main difference in the distribution of the L4 dermatome compared to the cutaneous branches of the femoral nerve? I.e. how could you differentiate the two injuries by sensory findings?
L4 dermatome goes all the way to the great toe on the medial side of the foot.
