Lower Extremity Flashcards
What block for lateral ankle surgery post-op block?
Sciatic peripheral nerve block
Lower extremity innervation
Lumbar and sacral plexuses
Lumbar: femoral, obturator, lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
Sacral: posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh, sciatic
Sacral Plexus
Posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh:
Sciatic: cutaneous innervation of posterior thigh and all leg/foot below knee (except for strip on medial side that is saph). At popliteal fossa branches into tibial and common peroneal nerves
Lumbar Plexus
Femoral: Terminal branch is saphenous nerve, provides sensory innervation to medial side of leg and foot
Obturator: sensory innervation of medial aspect of thigh; motor innervation of adductor muscles of LE
Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve: provides sensory innervation to lateral aspect of thigh
