Lower Extremity Flashcards
What muscles insert on the: iliac crest, ASIS, AIIS, greater trochanter, pubis body and inferior pubic ramus, ischial tuberosity, lesser trochanter?
Iliac crest: abdominals ASIS: Sartorius, TFL AIIS: rec fem Greater trochanter: hip rotators Pubic body/ramus: adductors, gracilis Ischial tuberosity: hamstrings Lesser trochanter: iliopsoas
2 types of stress fracture
fatigue and insufficiency
fatigue fracture: etiology
normal bone, abnormal stress
insufficiency fracture: etiology
abnormal bone (osteoporosis, metabolic disease, DM, etc) with normal stress
blood supply to femoral neck: why is it important?
runs through the femoral neck; disruption may lead to AVN
AVN femoral neck: role of X ray in viewing
X-rays often negative
AVN in femoral neck: what is a more sensitive imaging modality?
if X-ray negative, MRI or bone scan more sensitive
your pt. had a fall and you suspect hip fracture. what do you do?
Keep Pt. non WB. If s/he had an XR that came back negative, send them for an MRI
what bone is distal to the medial cuneiform? what bone is proximal?
distal bone: 1st metatarsal
proximal bone: navicular
what bones are immediately distal to the navicular?
medial and middle cuneiform, tiny corner of lateral cuneiform
what bone is immediately proximal to the 4th and 5th metatarsals?
cuboid
