Low Vision Flashcards
Presbyopia
Inability to focus properly and blurred images due to loss of accommodation, diminished elasticity of lens
Age related macular degeneration (AMD)
Affects part of eye that lets you see detail (macula)
Blank spot in visual field
Scotomas
Diabetic retinopathy 2 types
1) nonproliferative
2) proliferative
Nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy
Early stage of disease
Symptoms are mild or not apparent leaving more vision intact
Can progress to proliferative
Proliferative diabetes retinopathy
More advanced
Characterized by new blood vessel growth in retina and leakage of blood vessels causes scar formation and possibly retina detachment
Can lead to blindness
Glaucoma
Loss of peripheral vision
Tunnel vision
Cataracts
Vision is hazy, blurry
Increased glare sensitivity
Central vision impaired
Preferred retina locus (PRL)
Teaches client how to effectively use intact vision by looking around the scotoma
Melbourne low vision ADL index
Assess impact of visual impairment in ADL/ IADL
COPM
Ind person’s perception of performance in self care, productivity and leisure
Lighthouse near visual acuity test
Near visual avuity
Smelled E chart or tumbling E chart
Far visual acuity
Confrontation testing
Gross measurement of visual fields
Client focuses on central object and acknowledges appearance of stimuli in visual fields
Amsler grid
Macular degeneration test: central
Pelli-Robson contrast sensitivity chart
Contrast sensitivity test
