This is known
this is known since statistics say it’s getting worse because in recent years it has gone up by 4% from 19% in 2011/12 to 23% in 2022
What does it suggest
which suggests that some workers aren’t making enough to live outside of poverty.
How does low pay make the gap between rich and poor worse
Low pay makes the the gap between rich and poor worse since the national living wage is enough/not even enough for basic necessities but not much else leaving the people working in poverty staying in the same type of poverty and not moving up much/at all in the social mobility ladder
How does the national living wage create age inequality
The national living wage also creates inequalities since if people over 21 years of age they can earn the wage of £11.44 an hour where as if people under the age of 21 years of age can only be paid the national minimum wage which is between £8.60 an hour for 18,19,20 year olds and £6.40 for under 18s and this is bad because this creates an age inequality where people are getting payed differently for doing the exact same job.
Evaluation of Low Pay
Low Pay is an inequality that is an increasing problem around the whole UK, this problem alone makes the gap between richer and poorer larger and very much harder for a person living in poverty to climb up the social mobility ladder to become rich which is why low pay is arguably the most important cause of social inequality.
