Low Level Flashcards
How is night VMC altitude determined?
it is 500’ above the highest obstruction
or
400’ above the highest depicted terrain contour plus one contour interval
-whichever is higher
-within 3 NM of planned route centerline
How is the NVG latitude determined?
it is 500’ above the highest spot elevation
or
400’ above the highest depicted terrain contour plus one contour interval
-whichever is higher
-within 3 NM of planned route centerline
Since man-made obstacles are not factored into the NVG altitude, how are they accounted for?
NLT 3 NM prior to any obstacle within the 3 NM centerline, aircrew must visually identify the obstacle
if unable, climb 500’ above
if insight, remain clear
What navigation requirement must be met to fly lower than MSA at night?
ANP 1.0 (MC FOM of 5) or less
What is a break turn?
a 60 deg AOB turn at 2G
What is a hard turn?
45 deg AOB and sufficient pull to turn tightly and maintain energy
What is a check turn?
a 30 deg turn for 30 deg of heading change
