How do we know people are designed for relationships (communion)?
we are made in the image and likeness of God
we are meant to interact with each other
get lonely when not with another human
What three kinds of relationships can we have?
utility- a relationship because another person fulfills a need
pleasure- relationship because they provide pleasure, based on likes and interests
love- other is loved for themselves, not for what he/she gives
Why is it wrong to use people as a means to an end (that is to use or get pleasure from them merely)?
Because God made us love a specific way, it’s not kind to use someone and got tells us to love everyone
How are men and women complimentary?
They are meant to perfect each other in sexual complement ( complete sexual organism) or spiritual complement ( true love).
Distinguish and be able to give examples of: Love as attraction, desire, willing-the-good-of-the-other.
Love as attraction: occurs on level of boody and soul, ex: liking the appearance of a boy
Love as desire: desiring someone for they fufill a need, using a teacher to help you learn something
love as willing the good of the other: highest form of love: truly loving someone like a husband
Compare and contrast subjective vs. objective love.
subjective how we feel, physically and emotionally
objective: how we choose to act, external choice, how we act for the other regardless of how we feel
Distinguish between sensuality and sentimentality.
Sentimentality is your emotions creating an image of the other person that magnifies and idealizes all the good qualities s/he has, as sensuality is your emotions responding to the physical body of the other and recognizing the body as a potential object of enjoyment. Both are apart of subjective love.
Why does true love need objectivity?
True love needs objectivity to make the relationship last.
How does the body express objective love?
The body manifests the soul, there is a real way in which the body speaks a language, in which the body itself expresses the depth of the person.
How did our body-soul work before vs. after “The Fall”?
Men and women were “naked without shame,”Adam and Eve saw each other as persons first and foremost, secondly the physical body.
What is sexual shame? How is it a good thing?
Sexual shame is the act of concealing one’s sexual value in order that others see our full worth as persons.
What is the Christian perspective of chastity?
Chasity means the successful intergration of sexuality within the person and thus the inner unity in his bodily and spiritual being.

A beautiful and sacred act, designed by God for a specific purpose.
Why is marriage the only proper arena for sexual activity?
Sexual intercourse bespeaks a deep commitment to the other. One makes vows of total self-giving with the body.
What characteristics should you develop in order to be a worthy spouse?
Being faithful to your spouse even before marriage, pracitice chastity, fidelity to your spouse in your thoughts, words, and actions.
How are children a blessing for marriage?
Children enable for more love in a family and their parents to grow in virtue.
