- fricative alliteration- shows empathy and kindness towards the little’uns
- underscores the force which Golding sees as a natural kindness in the part of society which Simon represents

- Simon recognises Ralph’s fear and sensitivity and offers reassurance
- conniving Ralph to be certain of his return to civilisation

- Standing up or Piggy who’s being mocked because he isn’t physically able
- “specs” symbolise civilisation and act as a safety blanket throughout the novel- Simon linked once again to the human good

Simon is represented as an outsider compared to the other boys
POINT 2 what Golding refers to Simon as whilst he is being killed:

- suggesting his morality was too good to be on this island and he was an outsider from the beginning
POINT 2 what is Simon first introduced in?

- juxtaposing Simon with a cult from the beginning
- highly ironic as these are the people who murder him

- becoming linked to nature as he describes the trees as this
- “candle” signifies the light which Simon attempts to bring
- “bud” links to the allegorical coming of age novel and also creates a fragile image and flowering of his hope on the island

Simon becomes overwhelmed by evil
