Looking inside Cells (Sec 2) Flashcards
What is a cell membrane and what does it do?
It’s an outside boundary that surrounds the cell and controls what substances come into and out of the cell
What is a cell wall and what does it do ?
A cell wall is made if cellulose and helps protect and support the cell
What is a nucleus and what does it do ?
It’s an oval structure inside the cell and it’s a Control center it also directs all the cells activities
What is cytoplasm and what does it do?
It’s a clear thick gel like fluid, and it holds all cell parts
What is mitochondria and what does it do?
It’s a rod shaped structure and they convert energy in food molecules to energy the cell so that it can carry out functions
What is endoplasmic reticulum and what does it do?
It’s a maze of passage ways and carry proteins and other materials from one part of cell to another.
What are ribosomes and what do they do?
They are small, Grain like bodies and factories that produce proteins
What is Golgi body what does it do?
It looks like flat sacs and tubes and they receive proteins and materials and then distribute them to other parts of the cell
What is chloroplast and what does it do?
It’s a large structures floating in cytoplasm and they are a spot for photosynthesis where energy is made for cell
What is a vacuole and what does it do?
A membrane-bound sack in a plant cell and it’s a storage area of cells
What is a lysosomes and what does it do?
Small round structures that have chemicals and breakdown certain materials
How can you tell the difference between a animal and plant cell?
A plant cell has chloroplasts vacuole. And a cell membrane
