What is a main verb?
A single verb which expresses the main meaning.
What is the difference between dynamic and stative verbs?
Verbs that refer to physical actions are dynamic verbs.
Verbs that refer to state/conditions (e.g she FELT something) are stative.
Verbs that are placed in front of main verbs are called what?
Auxiliary verbs.
What are the three primary verbs?
Be.
Have.
Do.
Verbs can be active or passive. If a verb is used actively, the person of thing performing the action is what?
Emphasised as the subject of the verb. E,g ‘the minister HAS ISSUED an apology.’
If a passive verb is used, the emphasis shifts where?
To the object of the verb and the order of the sentence if reversed. E.g an apology HAS BEEN ISSUED by the prime minister.
