Long Term Effects Of Exercise On The Cardiovascular System Flashcards
What happens when heart hypertrophy occurs ?
The heart is a muscle, so as a result of training it becomes larger and stronger.
This means each beat forces out a larger amount of blood than a normal heart.
What happens when the resting heart rate decreases?
The increased size of the heart and the amount of blood ejected (stroke volume) means that it takes less beats in a minute to supply your body with enough oxygen at rest
Less strain on the heart at rest
What happens as the resting stroke volume increases ?
As the heart is larger in size and stronger it can pump more blood in each beat.
What happens as the cardiac output increases ?
The faster your heart can beat and the more blood it pumps per beat means the higher your cardiac output is.
Allows an athlete to work harder for longer as more vascular shunt.
What happens as the recovery rate increases ?
Training will result in your heart rate recovering quicker after exercise as the bigger and stronger your heart can deliver the blood to produce a quicker recovery rate
What happens as cappilarisation increases?
As a result of more exercise, more capillaries are produced.
An increase in capillaries allows more gaseous exchange to take place
