Define and give examples of long-term conditions
A
- A condition for which there is currently no cure, and which is managed with drugs and other treatments
- Examples: OA/RA, osteoporosis, stroke, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, hypertension, heart failure, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, COPD, Asthma, CF, depression

What is Prevalence? Describe the prevalence of long-term conditions in the population
A
- Prevalence – number of people with eg. a LTC
- LTCs are common (40% in UK) and their prevalence increases with age
- Globally population is ageing which will therefore increase the number of people living with LTCs

A
- Individuals: participation restriction, relationships, financial, mental health, poor QOL
- Society: greater strain on health and social care services
