Q

What are the MAIN long term reasons?

A

Militarism: Most empires had confidence in their armies and some wanted to build back morale after losses.
Alliance: In Europe there were 2 main alliances, the triple alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy) and the triple entente (UK, Russia, France)
Imperialism: Many European countries wanted larger empires.
