3 types of viruses
- BOOT SECTOR VIRUS: replaces boot program used to start the computer, with infected version of boot program. when computer runs, it loads virus onto computers memory & spreads everywhere
- FILE VIRUS: virus code inserted into program files & spreads to any program that accesses the infected file
- MACRO VIRUS: uses macro language of an application, such as word processing to hide virus code. often part of templates

***5 reason KS2 NOT successful in integrating IT in teaching:
- lacks IT co-ordinator& committee
- outdated / broken technology equipment
- unsuitable / inappropriate application software
- principal / school NOT have technology vision
- This vision not shared with stakeholders
- IT equipment not properly maintained
- NO IT coordinator to manage, schedule, control use of technology by people
- no budget for maintaining the equipment / budgeting new equipment
- no technology plan for implementing in order to meet the needs of the school
- teachers not trained to implement / integrate technology in teaching / learning
**5 major steps -> IT integration successful in teaching, learning in KSS:
- TRAINING: teachers to become computer, info & integration literate
- TECHNOLOGY VISION: school MUST develop technology vision & share with stakeholders to motivate the integration
- IT CO-ORDINATOR: appoint IT coordinator to maintain IT of school, manage, control etc.
- COMMITTEE: work under IT co-ordinator- help tasks & productivity, security measures
- TIMETABLE: insist each teacher implements lesson with whiteboard: 1 per month
- HARDWARE / SOFTWARE: computers and software needs to be upgraded
***5 ways EDUCATION department should support KSS to succeed integration:
- contribute monetary funds (IT resources, training, security etc.)
- provide proper training
- subsidize maintenance of IT resources at school
- provide budget for all expenses (computer, paper, ink)
- Internet Café at school for underprivileged kids
Operating system installed on computer of KSS? Describe function of operating system:
MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP:
• controls operations of computer & all devices attached to it
• coordinates all activities processed by computers hardware
• assigns different processors to different tasks being performed by computer
• is interface for application software & users when users choose to use certain application software
*IDENTIFY / DESCRIBE 5 areas recommend teachers trained in for KSS IT integration in classroom:
- using interactive whireboards & software programmes to do admin tasks / teaching. Like using spreadsheets, word, lesson planning etc.
- Use internet for resourcing info & ideas. spice up lessons & info for learners
- use search engines on internet
- email is affective communication tool to contact people
- Teachers need to have information literacy for evaluation purposes
AD / DISADVANTAGES of INTERNET ACCESS IN SCHOOLS:
AD:
