Buying local food, recycling waste, reducing electricity consumption, holidaying at home and installing solar panels.
How does good urban governance help London’s sustainability?
-Taxes are collected and invested in the city
- Resources are provided by the population (agriculture)
- Healthy and educated population means further economic growth (NHS)
Resource provision minimises environmental damage and pollution (agriculture - farms locally source food)
Where are London’s flows?
Heathrow airport, London Stock Exchange, South Bank, Stratford, Barbican.
How has London reduced emissions in terms of transport?
Developed blue cycle paths, Boris Bikes, Zip Car sharing schemes, hydrogen fuel cell technology, London Overground and school walking bus.
How is Heathrow’s terminal 2 sustainable?
It has recycled materials as it was constructed from the rubble of the old Terminal 2. Also it has reduced electricity consumption by maximising light entering but also reduced heat coming in to lessen the need for air conditioning.
