Logical framework Flashcards

1
Q

What are causal relations of the logical framework

A
  • If we wish to contribute to the goal, then we must achieve the purpose
  • If we wish to achieve the purpose, then we must deliver the specified results
  • If we wish to deliver the results, then the specified activities must be implemented
  • If we wish to implement the specified activities, then we must have and apply the identified inputs.

Q

What is the business model of an innovation?

A

input -> process -> output -> outcome

E = Q x A
* Effect
* Quality
* Acceptance

Q

How does the logical framework help structure the project planning?

A
  • What we want to contribute to (goal)
  • What we want to achieve (purpose)
  • What we have to do (results and activities) in order to achieve the goal and purpose
  • What we need (input) in order to accomplish these activities (based on what we have to do to achieve our objectives)

Q

What is the definition of goal?

A

Goal → future desired situation to which the project is expected to contribute to

  • Formulated as the benefit for the target population of the project
  • Contribution of the project to reach the goal is relative

Q

What is the definition of purpose?

A

Purpose -> What a project intends to have achieved when it is finished

  • Reason of being of the project
  • Utilisation by the target population

Q

What is the definition of result?

A

Result → services or products the project intends to deliver during implementation

  • Goods and services provided
  • Results are the positive accomplishments over which the project has full control and full responsibility

Q

What is the definition of activity?

A

Activity → what is going to be done by the organization responsible for the project implementation

  • Tasks necessary to achieve the results

Q

What is the definition of assumptions?

A

Assumptions → external factors for which the project is not responsible, but that influence the realisation of the project and, thereby, the results, purpose, and goal.

  • What the project does + the assumption yields the desired effect (goal)

Q

What are limitations of the logical framework?

A
  • A logframe is only as good as its planning team (quality of planning is determined as much by know-how represented in within the planning team as well as the willingness and ability to contribute this know-how)
  • It is no substitute for other technical, economic, social and environmental analysis
  • It cannot replace professional experience and know-how
  • It requires a team process to be most effective
  • Inflexibility in project management may arise when it is not adapted according to monitoring information (logframe is not a blueprint)
