Taps into people’s desire to be like the group or to belong
Red Herring
This argument acoids the key issue by introducing another issue as a diversion.
Straw Man
Creates a “straw man” by exaggerating, overstating, or over-simplifying an opposing point of view
Slippery Slope
Based on the idea that if a first step is taken then a second and third step will follow inevitably, until a disaster occurs
Glittering Generalities
Uses “glad words” that sound important but actually have little or no real meaning
Begging the Question
Assumes as evidence the very conclusion it is trying to prove
Ad Hominem
This argument is an attack on a person’s character instead of on the person’s idea or opinions
Hasty Generalization/Jumping to Conclusions
Bases its conclusion on too few samples to prove the point
Either/Or
Falsely reduces an argument to towo oversimplified alternatives
