Disadvantages of a semi conductor
Sensitive to temperature
Overheating can cause malfunction and reduce components working life
Sensitive to supply voltage polarity
Semi Conductor
Highly resistive in natural state but electrical properties modified
Adding energy can change it into a conductor
Zener Diode
Diode that allows reverse current flow after a voltage has been achieved
Used in voltage regulators and as protection device for voltage sensitive equipment
Logic Circuits represent
A switching action in a circuit
The AND gate
Need logic 1 from both inputs

The OR Gate
Produces a logic 1 as long as there is one logic 1 in the sequence
1 + 0 = 1
1 + 1 = 1
0 + 0 = 0
The NAND Gate
If two logic 1 = logic 0 output
1 + 1 = 0
0 + 1 = 1
0 + 0 = 1

The NOR Gate
Anything apart from logic 0 inputs produces 0 voltage
The Not Gate
1 input - if logic entry is 0 output will be logic 1
1 = 0
0 = 1
