Buttons/Switches Flashcards
Push Button
Common on modern ACs
It can show whether the circuit is:
On
OFF
Available
Unlit if abnormal
Trip Free CBS
Throw
Number of selections each switch has
Rocker Switch
Light AC
Single or double throw
Spring loaded
Toggle Switch
On off or 3 selections
Rotary switch
Can be selective or variable
Volume/auto brakes
Push Switch
Integrated lights
Faults come up on switch
Green = on
Circuit Breakers
Current rises above rated value the breaker trips can be reset in flight on conditions
Mechanical switch that opens when current exceeds rating
Thermally activated CB
Bimetalic strip which expands with temperature allows for overcurrent on generators/motors on start up as has some tolerance to excessive current before tripping
Magnetically activated CBS
Electromagnetic force which trips the circuits used on sensitive circuits that require tight regulation
Trip Free means
Will not allow circuit to be remade permanently if the fault is still there just a temporary connection made
Short Circuit
Occurs when wire carrying current touches another wire or where there is a electrical path of less resistance more prone on Unipole systems
Fuses
Protect against over current/rated by current capacity in amps/thin wire melts if current exceed and cannot be reset
Needs to be replaced with a fuse with same rating or less
Fuses CS25 requirements
AC must carry spare fuses of 3 or 10% whatever is more of each fuses at the same rating
Current Limiters
Slow blowing fuse
100-350 amps
Cannot be changed in flight
Normally found in series with busbar
Allows for a short term overload before melting
