Simple analgesics
Paracetemol (often combined with codeine - co-codamol, or dihydrocodein - co-dydramol
Opioid analgesics
High efficacy: Morphine, methadone. Low efficacy: codeine, dihydrocodeine, tramadol
NSAIDs
non-selective: Ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen. Selective COX-2: celecoxib (reduced peptic ulcer instance, but higher rate of cardiovascular events, so limited use now)
Drugs for neuropathic pain (anti-epileptics)
carbamazepine, also antiepileptics gabapentin, phenytoin. Antidepressants: amitriptyline
Anti-migraine
sumatriptan, almotriptan … triptans
Nitrates
Glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate
Local anaesthetics
lidocaine, cocaine, prilocaine, bupivacaine
local anaesthetics plus adrenaline
