what is locomotion?
A
it allows an organism to survive via to find food, water, shelter, mate, avoid predators, etc.

what does motile mean?
A
to be able to produce movement.

what are protists and the 3 forms of locomotion?
A
ameba, paramecium, and algae/other protozoa

how does locomotion work in ameba?
A
ameboid motion -> cytoplasm flows into the pseudopods (fake legs)

how does locomotion work in paramecium?
A
cilia motion -> hairlike organelles wave back and forth in a beating fashion

how does locomotion work in algae/other protozoa?
A
flagella motion -> long hairlike tail that whips around pulling the organism thru water

how do humans perform locomotion?
A
skeletal/endoskeletal -> interaction between muscles and jointed appendages “bones & cartilage”
