Lockes view of property
government is supposed to protect property, everyone has an equal claim to the lands resources, you get land through your own labor, you can possess land similarly to the way you can possess resources,, when you work the land it becomes yours

the majority gets to decide
what Locke takes to be the purpose of the government
the purpose is not to be fair, but to protect the rights of people. he criticizes the idea that we need 100% of people to agree
What Locke thinks on the majority of people agreeing
not 100% of people can agree due to a variety of options and interests and you’ll end up bad in the state of nature
What does Locke think the state should provide
Law (settled, known, established for common consent), Judge (known, indifferent), enforcement (police officers, etc)
According to Locke, know when and how the government can be resisted and dissolved by the people according to Locke
the government can be resisted when they exercise power beyond their right (tyranny). it is appropriate to resist or overthrow the government if they start doing inhuman things like taking away peoples life, liberty, and property
