What is the difference between the purpose of LMCs and GPCs?
LMCs - created by Lloyd George as a part of the National Insurance Act of 1911. They were created to represent GPs at a local level and to allow GPs to have a say in the running of the government’s health insurance scheme.
GPCs - created by the BMA to represent GPs on a national level. It has authority to negotiate with the government on matters such as pay and contracts. It is the GP’s sole negotiating body with the DoH.
