Local Dipping Area/Restrictions

j. Ashore, the first flight of the day should complete an MBIT when ALFS is installed. Afloat, the first flight of the day shall complete an MBIT to ensure proper operation of the reeling machine and RMIU and crews should conduct a confidence dip to 90’ whenever the mission allows. During confidence dip, ping only if authorized.

k. Practice dipping operations in the assigned Rota “Dip Box”are authorized with prior clearance from ALMART and shall be annoted on the flight schedule. The authorized area, as demarcated in reference (o), is the small area of waterspace between “Delta” areas LED-128, LED-90A and LED-90C. Dome depths shall be limited to 90 feet unless otherwise annoted on the flight schedule. Aircrews will notify Rota Tower with intentions to utilize the Dip Box and estimated time

l. Prior to dome employment, Aircrew shall verbalize bottom depth.

m. The POCL for the final dip of the sortie should be equal to or greater than the deepest depth in the sortie (bottom depth and cloud ceiling permitting).

Search and Rescue. The Spanish Navy has primary SAR responsibility for the Rota area. They have a combination of fixed and rotary wing aircraft and various surface ships available. The AODO is the point of contact for all SAR.
