- Known sensitivity (only absolute contraindication)
- Confused patients
- Young patients
- Length of procedure - will LA still e working at the end of the procedure
- Specific medical conditions - eg coagulations problems with spinals/epidurals
- Infection near or at the site of injection - increase absorption and reduces effectiveness of LA
