Lobes Flashcards
Frontal, Parietal, Temporal and Occipital lobes
How many lobes are there?
4
(Frontal, Parietal, Temporal, and Occipital)
Where are each lobes located?
the fore brain
what is the frontal lobe responsible for?
higher order thinking & controlled motor movements
what is the parietal lobe responsible for?
processes sensation and touch
what is the temporal lobe responsible for?
processes auditory information
what is the occipital lobe responsible for?
processes all visual inormation
Frontal– 3 specialised areas? what do they do?
Primary Motor Cortex– controls primary contolled movements
Prefrontal cortex– responsible for higher order thinking (self control problem solving, plan speech)
Broca’s Area– movements needed for speech
Parietal– 1 specialised area? What does it do?
Primary Sensory Cortex– processing area for sensory info
Temporal– 2 specialised areas? what do they do?
Primary auditory cortex– speech and hearing
Wernicke’s area– understanding of speech
Occipital– 1 specialised area? what does it do?
Primary visual cortex– processing visual info
What are assoscation areas?
non-specialised areas– process the mixing of signals from each primary areas when receiving multi-sensory information
