Load Independent deformation Flashcards
types of shrinkages
Plastic, autogenous, drying, Carbonation
what is plastic shrinkage
Due to settlement of solids and the loss of free water
What does plastic shrinkage cause, why and how to prevent it?
Causes cracking, by water evaporation, prevented by curing, polythene, spraying and membrane.
What does plastic shrinkage cause and how to prevent it?
Causes cracking, prevented by increasing concretes stability.
What is autogenous shrinkage?
Self produced shrinkage due to consumption of water during hydration.
what factors influence autogeneous shrinkage?
Cement chemical composition, cement content, initial water content, temperature b
What is drying shrinkage?
due to loss of water from cement gel
what is carbonation shrinkage?
Hardened cement paste reacts with CO2 over a large period of time. (it is irreversible)
Types of expansion.
Thermal expansion, Wetting expansion (self explanatory)
What is crack control?
refers to use of reinforcement to control cracking resulting from shrinkage and contraction.
