this is descriptive data, often composed of text that can be observed but not measured, for example survey responses where people are asked why they go to a specific shop
What are data flow diagrams?
A visual representation of how data moves within an information system

What is a data flow?
The path that data takes through the system that is represented by an arrowed line. The arrowed line should have a description of the data.
What is a process?
A process is anything that causes the data to be changed in some plan way. A process is represented as a box.
What is an external entity?
An external entity sends or receives data from the system. It can represent a person, a machine, an organization etc., that is external to the system being modeled. Flows outgoing from external entities go to processes.
