It defines the overall goal and limitations of the analysis, it might define general variables like how much time it should take.

This is where the tools used for analysis are decided on based on what data you’re collecting. It could also be how you’re processing that data, how you’re manipulating it.
What would take place in the Identify Potential Sources stage of data analysis?
This is where the gatherers of information used their defined target audience and pick out potential useful sources of information. The sources should be based on the need and scope of the analysis.

Effective communication
Efficient workflow
Means data will be used more productively to further the company
Allows your business to plan ahead using your managed data
If a good Management Information System is used data can be quickly read with clear and concise information
