Stages of Data analysis
- Identify the need
Before anything else can take place, objectives are set for what the data analysis will hope to achieve. - Define the scope
In this stage the restrictions of the project are defined. - Identify potential sources
Project planners must identify a wide range of sources for the potential information. - Source and select information
Information is gathered from the identified sources in stage three. - Select the most appropriate tools
There are many different data analysis tools that can be used as part of this sequence. - Process and analyse data
Data has now been collected and can be inputted into software such as spreadsheets or databases to further analyse. - Record and store information
The data has been collected and analysed and now any findings are written into a report. - Share results
A report is worthless if not shared with the stakeholders

Open information systems
This type of system can interact with other information systems (e.g. another database) to exchange data, even from different platforms (types of computers).
Because it is open it is more at risk of data loss and/or hacking.
Closed information systems
This type of system is private and cannot exchange data with other systems. Access is limited but it is much more secure than an open system.
