Discrimination is the unjust and unfair treatment of individuals based on their differences.

What is the difference between direct and indirect discrimination?
Direct discrimination involves intentionally treating someone unfairly based on their differences. Indirect discrimination is when a policy or rule applies to everyone but has disadvantages to some people or a particular group.
What is labelling?
A negative approach that identifies people as members of a particular group with the assumption that they are ‘all the same’.
Who is affected by discriminatory practices?
- Individuals who require care and support e.g. patients, individuals with dementia, children with autism
- Family, friends and relatives of individuals who use care services
- Practitioners
What are the impacts of discriminatory practices on individuals?
- Disempowerment
