• can be become difficult/ too much for an informal carer as people with severe autism or dementia can become violent
how can Staffing issues lead to abuse
• staff should be working to their staff ratio
• when in residential care, one staff member could be in charge of up to 20 people which could lead to neglect

• lonley/ neglected
• 1 in 3 homeless people are physically hit
• mental health
• dependent on alcohol and drugs
• difficulty communicating
• self-fulfilling prophecy
what Environmental factors can lead to abuse?
• professional is responsible for service users care in ANY professional setting
• training/ CPD must be given to professionals
• service users rely on professionals
• ensure it is safe and secure
• informal carers might have an affect if in own home
• relying on professionals visits

• blocking emergency exits with obstacles
• service users agitated
• left in a&e for long periods of time with no support

how does Independent living cause abuse
• trip hazards due to living conditions
• service users may not fix H&S issues when required
• home may not meet requirements of the SU
• may not be regulated by managers/etc
• little to no social networks to reach out to

• vulnerable due to conditions (cold, physical)
• face judgment from care services
• may not be able to access info on who to report to
• recruited into gang culture/ exploited
• services not offering same care to homeless people
• face sexual exploitation with bribes
