Traditional scope paramedicine
the provision of prehospital acute care by paramedics responding in an ambulance or emergency response vehicle and transporting patients to the emergency department
Expanded scope paramedicine
it’s an emerging field and healthcare whereby paramedics perform in expanded or non-traditional roles in an effort to address the unmet health needs of the local population
Community paramedicine program
a program that uses paramedics to provide intermediate or scheduled primary, urgent and or specialized healthcare to vulnerable patient populations by focussing on improving equity in health care access across the continuum of care
Community paramedic
a paramedic who is completed a formal and recognized educational program and has demonstrated competence in provision of health education, clinical assessment and monitoring point of care diagnostics and treatment modalities within or beyond the role of traditional emergency care and transport
Differentiated practice
do use of paramedics as a non-emergency setting or acute non-life-threatening situations according to their expertise and qualifications
The overarching goals of the Saskatchewan health authority for the community para medicine include the following:
Delivering car closer to home
agumenting available services
Assisting with gaps in service
Creating dynamic into professional working relationships between provider levels within the healthcare system
Supporting ER patient flow by decreasing the number transports of patients who do not require care in the ER

According to the CSA community para medicine programs may be grouped into three types
- Programs were care is different for example paramedics providing dialysis support, point of care testing, IV antibiotics
- Programs were the responses different including case findings and referrals, facilitated early discharge programs
- Programs for coordination of care is the goal/role including remote monitoring, health surveillance and promotion
