What is an example of a hazard that could lead to injury/harm?
Musculoskeletal - Incorrect manual handling such as a nurse not following procedures when moving a patient such a not using a slip sheet, could lead to a back or neck injury due to strain.
What is an example of a hazard that could lead to Illness?
Biological - C Diff caused by a doctor not washing their hands after treating a contaminated patient, can lead to cross-contamination and infecting other vulnerable patients.
What is an example of a hazard that could lead to poor standards of care?
Working practices - lack of supervision of staff can lead to poor communication with the team and can impact the quality of care, a miscommunication could cause conflict and misunderstandings leading to stress and mistakes when looking after patients, for example, not conducting observations correctly.
What is an example of a hazard that could lead to financial loss?
Lack of security systems - No lockers for staff leads to theft of personal belongings, damage of property is expensive for employers/organisations - claims made by staff could lead to a loss of money for the employer
