A
  • GCS of 3 and airway is poor despite adjuncts and jaw thrust
  • Cardiac arrest provided an ETT tube cannot be placed
  • Rescue airway if failed intubation

  • Gag reflex present
  • Active vomiting
  • Upper airway obstruction

Potential complications of the procedure

A
  • Inability to gain a good seal
  • Regurgitation and aspiration
  • Kinking of the LMA shaft
  • Laryngospasm
  • Cough
  • Trauma to the upper airway
  • Dislodgement of LMA
  • Gas insufflation
