What are the 3 bones of the hip?
- Ilium
- Ischium
- Pubis
Where does the head of the femur articular with the hipe bone?
Acetabulum
What is the importance of the greater sciatic foramen?
It allows for the nerves of the sacral plexus to exit the pelvis and travel to the gluteal region and to the rest of the lower limb inferiorly
What does the inguinal ligament run between?
The anterior superior iliac spine and the pubic tubercle
It serves as a demarcation between the abdomen and pelvis superiorly and the lower limb inferiorly
What does the iliac crest mark?
Between the gluteal region inferiorly and the trunk superiorly
What are the roots of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh?
L2-L3

What is the iliopsoas muscle comprised of?
- Iliacus muscle
- Psoas major muscle
The iliopsoas muscle attaches distally to the lesser trochanter of the femur = it’s a strong flexor of the hip joint!
What muscle does the sacral plexus lie on top of?
The piriformis muscle
