living things and cells Flashcards
what are cells
the basic buliding blocks of all living things
what is cell division
when a cell splits in two this is how living things grow
what does the cell membrane in an animal cell do and where is it located
it holds the contents of the cell in place and controls what passes in and out of the cell it is located out side the cell
what does the nucleus of an animal cell do
it is the control centre of the cell it controls the cell using chromosomes
what does cytoplasm do in an animal cell do and where is it located
it is a watery liquid found between the sell membrane and the nucleus it carries out some cell reactions and supports the structure of a cell
what does the cell wall in a plant do and where is it located
it is found outside the cell membrane and it gives strength to the cell
what does the cell membrane in a plant cell do
it holds the contents of the cell in place
what does the nucleus in a plant cell do
it contains genes that form chlorophlast which allows plants to make its own food
what does the vacuole in a plant cell do
it contains liquid and if it gets to full it pushes the cytoplasm against the cell wall it also gives strength to the cell
what are the 5 charactaristics of all living things
cells=basic building blocks of all living things
nutrition=the way organisms get their food
excretion =the way living things get rid of waste
reproduction=the way living things produce new living things
responce=the way living things react to changes in their surroundings
what are the 5 groups of living things
bacteria
plants
animals
fungi
other [protists]
what is the difference beween a vertibre and an invertabre
a vertibrae has a backbone and an invertibray does not
what is biodivercity
the range of living things
