Vertebral levels:
Spine of scapula: T3
Inferior angle of scapula: T7, body of T8
Subcostal Margin: L3
Supracristal plane: L4 (landmark for lumbar puncture)
The spinal cord ends at
L1/L2
Schober’s test
Tests lumbar flexion
Have patient flex lumbar spine and increase distance between two lines
Anterior axillary fold
Pectoralis major and pectoralis minor
Posterior axillary folds
Teres major and latissimus dorsi
Test for pectoralis major
Press hand against head
Press hand against hips
Test for trapezius
Extend head, shrug shoulders, abduct arm above 90 degrees
Test for Latissimus dorsi
Resist extension of arm with flexed forearm
Press elbow into palm
Test for teres major
Resist medial rotation
Test for teres minor
Resist lateral rotation
Horn blower’s
Hitchhikers
Test for infraspinatous
Resist lateral rotation
Supraspinatous test
Abduction in scapular plane
Empty can test (raise arms to 90 degrees in scapular plane then rotate medially as far as possible)
Serratus anterior test
Push again wall or table and watch for scapular winging
Deltoid test
Anterior- resist flexion
Lateral- abduct arm against resistance
Subscapularis
Internal rotation test
Belly press test
Lift off test
Triceps test
Long head- resist extension of forearm
Lateral- resist extension of forearm
Medial head- no individual test
Biceps brachii test
Resist flexion of supinated forearm
Brachialis test
Resist flexion of pronated forearm
Sub Acromial impingement test
Hawkins test
Neer’s test
Both passive tests
Biceps tendinopathy testing
Speed’s test ( arm elevated, elbow flexed, examiner applies downward pressure)
Yergason’s test (elbow at side, palm in supination, examiner attempts to pronate hand)
Acromioclavicular joint testing
Cross arm test
Flexor retinaculum attachments
Pisiform
Hook of hamate
Tubercle of scaphoid
Crest of trapezium
