How did Liverpool’s economy change?

A

**1700-1800: **Main city used in trasporting goods and people. Canals like the Sankey canal (1757) and the first railway (1829) were used. 80% of slaves came through liverpool, and used for cotton and tobacco trade.
1900s: Industrilased as secondary jobs increased
1960s: Manufacturing became outdated, so docks were closed, people lost their jobs. Population halved.
1980s onwards: Regeneration started, docks were reopened, creating jobs, and tertiary services like Tate Liverpool art gallery were opened. Tertiary services and Quarternary services are being developed
