Liver Function 2 Flashcards
Liver stores
Excess glucose as glycogen
Iron
Vitamins
Levels controlled by hepatocytes :
•absorb and store each nutrient when in excess
• releasing the nutrient into blood when levels drop
Liver synthesises..
1) cholesterol : important for cell membranes and bile
2) plasma proteins: hepatocytes produce 90% of them
•albumin - maintain osmotic pressure
•fibrinogen - clotting
•globulins - transport of iron and preventing oxidation
Disposal of erthyrocytes (RBC)
120 days lifespan but become agile so must be removed by phagocytic cells in spleen, liver or bone Marrow
Or they rupture and release HAemG into plasma and removed by phagocytic cells in kuppfer cells in sinusoid walls
Bike production
- hepatocytes secrete bile into caniculi and it drains through to gall bladder
- gb concentrates bile by reabsorbing water
- discharged into SMall i via bile duct
Heat produced and keeps warm
