Liver and Gallbladder Flashcards
What cell type produces bile and plasma proteins?
hepatocyte
What cell type stores vitamin A? What happens to this cell during cirrhosis or inflammation/?>
Ito cell, It loses storage abilitly and transforms into myofibroblasts that synthesizes collagen leading to fibrosis
Where is the bile canliculus formed?
between adjacent hepatocytes
Which hepatocyte organelle is involved with drug detoxification?
sER
What makes up the dual blood supply in the liver?
hepatic portal vein (75%) and the hepatic artery
What bile pigment gives feces its color?
Bilirubin glucoronide
What does the concept of a liver acinus explain?
Insight into blood perfusion, metabolic activity, and liver pathology
Contrast the three zones in a liver acinus
-Zone 1: hepatocytes that first receive oxygen, nutrients, and toxins from sinusoidal blood
Zone 2: In between 1/2 in character
Zone 3: first hepatocytes to show ischemic necrosis and first to show fat accumulation
Where is the axis of a liver acinus?
between two central veins
What layers of the SI is missing in the gallbladder?
Muscularis Mucosae
Where is the gallbladder adventitia and serosa respectively?
attached to the liver, on its free surface
What does the gallbladder mucosa consist of ?
simple columnar epithelial cells with apical microvilli
lateral placations
mitochondria
Rugae/folds (flatten when gb is full)
Diverticula (formed from invaginations of mucosa)
What is the purpose of the perisinusoidal space? aka ?
It is site of exchange of materials between Blood and Liver cells. It is also where Ito cells reside and microvilli project into this area.
aka Space of Disse
What is function of gallbladder?
holds about 50 ml of bile and its muscularis empties contents into cystic duct.
Cystic duct receives bile and discharges concentrated bile to the duodenum via common bile duct and sphincter of oddi.
