Fantasy
A genre of literature and art that uses magic, the supernatural, and often imaginary worlds as central elements of its narratives.
Science Fiction
a genre of speculative fiction that explores futuristic, scientific, or technological advancements and their potential impact on individuals, societies, and civilizations.
Dystopias
refers to a fictional society, often set in the future, where the conditions of life are extremely bad, typically due to oppressive government control, environmental collapse, or other forms of widespread suffering.
Series Format
refers to a set of related books or stories that share common characters, themes, settings, or plots
Theme
a central concept in literature, art, film, and other forms of storytelling, referring to the underlying message, idea, or moral explored through the narrative.
Primary Theme
a work refers to its central or dominant idea, message, or concept
Explicit Theme
a theme in a work that is clearly and directly stated or expressed, leaving little room for ambiguity or interpretation
Implicit Theme
a theme that is not directly stated or openly expressed in the narrative, but instead is suggested or implied through the characters, events, symbols, and overall structure of the work
Nonfiction
any form of writing or content that is based on real events, factual information, or actual people
Information Text (Informational Books)
to a category of nonfiction writing that aims to inform, explain, or provide factual knowledge on a specific subject or topic
Animal Fantasies
a subgenre of fantasy fiction where animals play a central role, often taking on anthropomorphic qualities (human-like characteristics) or existing in worlds where they possess human-like intelligence, emotions, and abilities
Magical Realism
a literary genre and style that blends elements of reality with magical or fantastical occurrences, presenting the magical as ordinary and accepted within a realistic setting
Time Travel Fantasies
a subgenre of speculative fiction that centers around characters traveling through time—whether forward or backward—often involving adventure, exploration, and the consequences of altering events in the past or future
Alternate Worlds
a concept in speculative fiction where characters exist in different versions of reality—worlds that are separate from, but often similar to, our own
Quests
a central narrative device in many works of fiction, especially in fantasy and adventure genres
Biography
a detailed, written account of a person’s life, focusing on the most significant events, experiences, and achievements in that person’s life
Autobiography
a self-written account of the author’s life. It typically focuses on the personal experiences, significant events, and milestones that shaped the individual’s journey
Biographic Fiction
a literary genre that blends elements of biography with fictional storytelling
