A type of article you will find in the literature that describes a practice model (e.g., strengths-based).
Practice Model
Analysis of the results from many studies on a topic. It combines the findings of many different studies. It is a type of empirical study.
Meta-analysis
A type of article that defines a problem, summarizes empirical research, identifies strengths, weakness, and gaps in the research, draws conclusions, proposes next steps, and/or makes recommendations for policy.
Literature Review
A type of empirical study that uses a questionnaire that is given to participants on paper, by telephone, in an interview, on-line, etc.
Survey
A type of article that highlights a theory or sustains or refutes a theory.
Example: Dr. Jamie wrote an article describing social learning theory.
Theoretical article
A type of empirical study that has 2 or more groups, a pre & post-test, (and random assignment of groups).
Experiment
Dr. Maria and his GA recruited 100 MBA students to participate in a negotiation study. He randomly assigned students to either the sober group or the inebriated group (he gave the students enough beer per body weight to have a BAC of .03.
Then the students were given a negotiation exercise. He compared how well the sober + inebriated groups did on their negotiation exercise, what is the notation?
