25
How does syllabation usually work?
Syllables usually start with a consonant and end with a vowel To count syllables correctly account for the rules regarding silent 'e's
26
What are the rules of silent 'e's in syllabation?
1. We count the 'e' with a syllable when it is placed in FRONT of a consonant 2. We don't count the 'e' when it is placed IN FRONT of a vowel (double vowel), or when it is at the end of a line
27
What is the purpose of syllabation?
to count syllables in order to determine type of vers
28
La synérèse
émission de deux voyelles en une seule syllable Phonological process that combines 2 adjacent vowels into a single vowel or dipthong. Type of contraction/elision
29
La diérèse
émission de deux voyelles en deux syllables Two adjacent vowels are pronounced separately
30
What is the process of analysing the vers?
1. Compter le nombres de syllables 2. Chercher des groupes rythmiques
31
What does the rule of rhythmic groups say?
Selon les groupes rythmiques, le vers se divise en deux parties (plus ou moins égales). Ces deux parties s'apellent des hémistiches.
32
hémistiches
les deux parties de vers (égales) separé avec une césure
33

52
How does masculine and feminine rhyme work?

53
What are the three types of rhyme?

54
What are the three arrangements of rhyme?
1. Rimes plates - aabb (flat rhymes) mm-ff-mm-ff (a distique of masculine rhyme alternating with feminine rhyme) 2. Rimes croisées - abab 3. Rimes embrassées - abba
55
What are the poetic formes?
1. Free verse / le vers libres *Traditional free verse Contains lines of different meters (les vers de mesures différentes) in the same poem *Modern free verse No meter 2. Fixed form poetry Fixed number of lines, stanzas and syllables
