Why does Antigone choose to risk death?
She wants to honor her brother and is afraid that if she doesn’t, the gods will be angry.
What is Antigone’s father famous for?
Killing his father and marrying his mother. Antigone, Ismene, Eteocles, and Polyneices are the children of that marriage.
Who is Ismene?
Antigone’s sister who is opposed to burying Polyneices because she is afraid of what Creon will do.
Who is Haimon?
Antigone’s fiancée and Creon’s son.
Who is Antigone?
Main heroine of the story. Opposed of Creon’s rule of not burying her brother (Polyneices) because she is afraid of disobeying the gods.
Who is Eteocles?
Antigone’s brother who is buried with honors.
Who is Teiresias?
The blind prophet in the story who is also accused of bribery when telling Creon of his prophecy of the birds.
Why does Creon forbid the burying of Polyneices?
Polyneices brought an army against the City of Thebes.
Why does Ismene refuse to help Antigone at first? Why does she change her mind?
She is afraid of going against the law, but later she realizes that one must fight against what is unjust.

What does Creon accuse Ismene and Antigone of?
Trying to take over the throne, breaking the law, and burying Polyneices.
What does Creon suspect of Sentry and Teiresias?
That they’ve been bribed, though they really haven’t been.
Why does Creon order Antigone to be locked in a cave, rather than be killed?
He thinks killing her would make the townspeople turn against him, but he thinks he’ll be blameless if she happens to die in a cave.
