Form
what words, stylistic devices and techniques doe an author use to communicate his or her ideas or emotions? ie - a poem may consist of ver many short sentences and words
function
to what effect does an author use words, stylistic devices and techniques? ie- a poem consisting of many short words and sentences might create an effect of speed or energy. this effect supports the overall idea or them of a poem.
flat character
is not fully developed, we know only one side of the character.
round character
fully-developed, with many traits - bad and good-shown in the story.we feel we know the character.
protagonist
hero, central character in the plots conflict
antagonist
anti-hero, is the force in conflict with the protagonist- society, nature, or fate, or person. or the protagonist own self.. internal conflict
stereotype-
a character who possesses expected traits of a group rather than being an individual.
foil
character whose physique and/or personality contrast drastically with the protagonist in order to highlight various features of the hero. (contrasting character)
Function scheme for round characters
- subject- info on personality, looks, behaviour, traits.
- object- what is the subject trying to achieve?
- helper-who or what is helping the subject achieve his goal?
- adversary- who or what is keeping the subject from achieving their goal.
- end- what happens to the subject, at the end of the story.?
