Tone
The way a character says something.
Characterization
The way an author describes a character.
• Direct- I have hazel eyes. (By using direct characterization you can tell I have hazel eyes)
• Indirect- “You need to study this material,” said the Teacher. (By using indirect characterization you can tell that whoever the teacher is talking to is struggling with certain material)
Mood
The feelings a certain story’s setting/plot/ etc. provokes
Diction
The words a person chooses to use.
Idioms
Phrases used to describe a situation. Foreigners may not understand. Idiot phrases.
• It’s raining cats and dogs.
Imagery
When an author describe a situation so vividly it provokes a scene to unfold in your mind.
Narration
When there is a specific person telling a story.
